University of Sydney
Chindhu Shunmuga Sundaram is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Sydney, working on integrating patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) into routine clinical practice across cancer services at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals. Her PhD research focused on developing and validating clinically relevant PROMs for identifying and addressing needs in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients in India, Australia, and globally. This work included translating and validating PROMs into three native Indian languages, earning her the Outstanding PhD Thesis Award and the Tasman Lovell Memorial Medallion for Psychology in 2020.
Chindhu has experience undertaking systematic reviews, qualitative research, PRO measure development, psychometric evaluation, and cultural and linguistic adaptation of PROMs.
In addition to her research, Chindhu is a registered psychologist practicing in Sydney, with clinical expertise spanning psycho-oncology and broader psychological care. She previously held an academic teaching position in psychology in India, mentoring undergraduate students and supervising their psychology research projects.
Her research interests lie in improving the methodological quality of PRO assessments in clinical research, developing valid and culturally sensitive PROMs, and implementing them in routine oncology practice to enhance patient care.
