Professor John Hooper
Mater Research Institute
Professor John Hooper leads the Cancer Biology Lab at Mater Research Institute - The University of Queensland. His research focuses on identification of targets for detection and treatment of ovarian cancer and involves development and interrogation of disease-relevant preclinical models that employ human cell lines and patient tumours. Professor Hooper has expertise in generating and evaluating biomolecules (antibody-drug conjugates and theranostics), real-time monitoring of cancer growth, and evaluation of chemotherapeutic agents, small molecular weight drugs, antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates and theranostics against cancer models. An agent developed by his laboratory is currently being evaluated in a phase 1 clinical trial for PET scan-based detection of ovarian cancer. Professor Hooper’s research is currently supported by funding from NHMRC, US-DoD, CUREator, OCRF, PanKind, Tour de Cure, Lions Clubs Australia and industry partners.
